San Diego, CA
Want to plan a weekend getaway full of great food, amazing night life and beautiful beaches? Look no further, San Diego is the place!
Getting there: San Diego Airport is a cheap airport to fly to from most airports on the west coast and some east coast airports. Southwest Airlines is typically the cheapest options but I would search Google Flights and SkyScanner to verify. Flights can range from $100 – $350 depending on time of year and departure airport. Like any big city, the best way to get from the airport to your accommodations are usually Uber or Lyft.
Stay: Airbnb is a great option for the Pacific Beach area – you can rent a 3 bedroom house a few blocks from the beach for less than $200 a night. Great options for luxury hotels include TOWER23 Hotel and Pacific Terrace Hotel – these hotels will cost you a pretty penny even in off-peak season. Budget hotels are a great way to save money for activities, check out PB Surf Beachside Inn – just a few steps to the beach!
Day 1: Start your day with a walk on the beach followed by some pints and pickles. Most of the hotels in the area are within walking distance to the beach however, if you decide not to walk -stop by Ray’s Rentals Pacific Beach to rent a beach cruiser for $12 per day!
When you are ready to unwind, get yourself over to the PB Alehouse for a wide selection of beers and tasty treats. The Alehouse brews their own beer but also has plenty of other local draft options – don’t forget to try the PB Ale House Slomo Saison on their rooftop patio. Favorites: Fried Pickles, California Golden and Fish Tacos!
Nightlife: There are plenty of rowdy bars in Pacific Beach with great drink options. Try to visit them all – Firehouse, Amplified Ale Works, PB Shore Club and The Local just to name a few!
Day 2: No weekend getaway is complete without brunch and mimosas! You must start your morning out with a mimosa flight and delicious meal at Crushed. You can chose 3 mimosas from several different options – from left to right grapefruit & rosemary, elder flower, and lavender. Favorites: French Toast Sticks, The Florentine, The Stinky Goat and Caprese! The restaurant has the most entertaining team of employees, my friends and I had the best time during brunch – I laughed so hard my throat hurt!
Spend the rest of the day at the beach – the sunsets are unbeatable! When it’s time to refuel after mimosas and plenty of sun, stroll over to Amplified Ale Works for a great selection of food and drinks. Favorites: Chickpea Veggie Burger, Parmesan Zucchini and the Smokin Kiwi IPA!
Day 3: Head to the downtown area for a cruise with Hornblower – there are plenty of cruise options but I would suggest the Two Hour Harbor Cruise & Sean Lion Adventure.
The cruise is very mellow, 1 hour heading north and 1 hour heading south. There is a bar on board so take advantage of that while you are taking in the sights!
Finally before heading to the airport, stop by Ballast Point Brewing Company. They have four different locations but the Little Italy location is by far my favorite. This tasting room is only about a mile from where the cruise begins and less than 10 minutes from the airport.
The space is huge and there is plenty of room for you and your group to grab a flight and some yummy food.
Try the flight of the day! Favorites: Pretzel Bites, Vegetarian Bahn Mi Burger and Shrimp Street Tacos (VERY SPICY!!)
Well there you have it, a weekend jam packed with brews, beaches and boat loads of tasty food!
